SHIIIIIIIIINY

Yesterday was the best. Day. EVER!
See, every year I have a birthday. That birthday is on June second. But I don't celebrate it on June second. I celebrate it later in the summer, during late June or July. What I do: With my mother, grandmother, aunt (or aunts plural; I have another aunt, but she's not always in the country when it happens), and cousin, I go to a bookstore. We eat lunch at the bookstore restauraunt, and then I get to pick out my birthday presents.

Take a look.

(Before you are all "PICTURES, Y U NO GOOD?" here is the answer: "I NO IS PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER. DEAL." And thank you, mom, for letting me use your camera.)

We begin. There is a MAGIC BAG OF MAGICFULNESS. WHAT COULD IT POSSIBLY HOLD INSIDE?

*gasp* Books! Here we have Dreadnought, by Cherie Priest. I've just recently read her book Boneshaker (review coming soon), which I loved, (EPIC STEAMPUNK WITH AIRSHIPS AND ZOMBIES) and this is the sequel.

Black Powder War, Empire of Ivory, and Victory of Eagles, books three through five in the Temeraire series, by Naomi Novik. I've only read book one, but I loved it. I recently acquired a copy of book two, though I've not yet read it, and these are the next three.

Melting Stones, by Tamora Pierce, book two of The Circle Reforged, which comes after The Circle Opens, which comes after Circle of Magic. I don't really get it either. In any case, I really like these books.

The City of Dreaming Books, by Walter Moers. I've never heard of this book or this author, but come on - how can you resist that cover? Or that title?

The Dragon Book, an anthology of short stories about - can you guess? Dragons! It's got a story by Diana Wynne Jones in it, and that was about all the incentive I needed to buy it, but there's also Naomi Novik, Jonathan Stroud, Jane Yolen, Garth Nix, Gregory Maguire, and Tamora Pierce - and those are only the people I've read books by! I like all of them - well, my feelings about Garth Nix are massively conflicted (I loved his Keys to the Kingdom books until the end of the last book when I was like, "I read through SEVEN books and THIS is the ending you give me? No. Just no.) but everyone else.

Pegasus, by Robin McKinley. Not only is this by Robin McKinley - and I love her - it has the gorgeousest cover ever. THE END.

I shall be reviewing all these books as I finish them, so... stay tuned!

(The other thing that made yesterday so awesome: That evening, we went to a nearby theater to watch my favouritest movie of all time evar in the world: The Princess Bride. Most awesome hilarious quotable adorable movie evar.)

Goodbye. Allow me to wave goodbye:

HAVE FUN STORMING THE CASTLE!

  3. BOOOOOOKS!!! YAY!!!

Happy Belated Birthday! Your gifts look awesome. And a lot like mine. ;) My birthday is next week, and my list consisted of books and CDs. And I know that's what Mom got me, because I saw the stack of wrapped gifts! ;D

Anyway, I definitely agree - "The City of Dreaming Books"? Most appealing title ever! And the cover of Pegasus is epic. :) Great picks!

  4. @Charlotte: Will do!

@Charlotte: When I went to the Design tab after putting on the new template, there was an option right there to change your icon, so I just made this in Paintbrush and uploaded it. I don't know how you'd do it in your template. Sorry.

@Taylor: :D And Happy Early Birthday.

  6. That's a cool birthday tradition.

I'm wondering, though...PRINCESS BRIDE IN A THEATRE? HOW?! I'm jealous. I HATED that movie the first time I saw it, but then I read the book, loved it, and finally "got" the movie. I couldn't figure out if it was serious or joking the first time I saw it. :P
